4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Springtime may technically be here but in Charleston it’s not all warm and comfy outside. Your furnace has been working for months trying to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to give your furnace some love. If you hear funny noises or the heating system has stopped operating, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice an intense gas smell, you almost certainly need furnace repair work and you should call Pardee Service Experts straightaway.

Before you jump to the conclusion that you need a furnace repair technician, check out these tips from Pardee Service Experts.

  • Make sure your thermostat has been changed to “heat.”

It may sound laughable, but we have hectic days and life happens, so sometimes it’s easy to miss the simple fixes. Forgetting to move over the thermostat can make you believe you need furnace repair and installation when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Speaking of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially considering this switch isn’t one you actually look at daily. Most systems have built-in delays so give it a few minutes for your furnace to get going before panicking about contacting our furnace repair man.

  • Swap your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters around every three months to help your furnace run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A filthy air filter is one of the most recurrent reasons for declining performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your family to become sick. Swap your filter to keep both your furnace and your home healthy. You may also schedule seasonal maintenance with Pardee and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your tune up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Make sure your circuit breaker (the one that controls your furnace) is in the “off” position and not the middle. If the breaker has been moved to the middle for some reason, move the breaker to “off” and then push it back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs get to be pricey, so avoid a potential issue altogether with ongoing maintenance from Pardee Service Experts. However, if you are ever in need of furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to service all your heating needs.
