What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Pardee Service Experts in Charleston always writes about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it actually mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as stated on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified through NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Pardee Service Experts that our team is NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these standards, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Pardee Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only certain areas relevant to our technicians. NATE test candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the skill areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)

  • Light Commercial Refrigeration (service only)
