Now is when people start turning on their heating systems to settle in for a cold winter. Unfortunately, when some furnaces start up, especially if it hasn’t undergone a fall heating tune-up, there are some problems that need to be inspected. A big problem you may encounter is your furnace making weird noises – check out these furnace noises you should never disregard.
If you hear a loud raking sound that sounds like metal on metal, there is likely something wrong with the blower wheel. If you hear something like this, turn off your furnace ASAP and call Pardee Service Experts to inspect the system. There are multiple things that could be wrong with the blower wheel. First, it could just be loose and if the part is not too damaged, can be tightened. Second, it may be that the blower wheel is broken and in need of replacement. Or third, it might be that the motor mount itself broke, causing the whole blower assembly to shake uncontrollably. One of our service professionals would be happy to come out and take a look, and get you back to the quiet and cozy home you have come to expect.
Loud Bang When Furnace Starts
If there is a loud bang when your furnace turns on, there are a handful of things that could be going on. Two common things are a dirty furnace burner or ignitor. Expanding and contracting air ducts can also produce loud booms after the heating system blower starts up. A filthy furnace burner or ignitor could holdup the burners from igniting, causing gas to build up. When the gas finally does ignite, it will create the loud pop you hear. This could cause a safety issue, especially if one of the small explosions caused the heat exchanger to break. Not only could that cause a carbon monoxide leak, but you would also have to replace the heat exchanger, which could be very pricey.
The other trouble, expanding and contracting air ducts, is a common noise complaint for people with metal ducts. If your furnace is making the loud pop and it is caused by your air ducts, it could be a sign of undersized ducts, obstructed vents, or a clogged air filter. Pardee Service Experts is happy to visit your home to diagnose your trouble and get your home back to order. Additionally, this will also result in improved comfort as well.
If you hear a squealing sound, it could be the blower motor is malfunctioning, the shaft bearings are in need of oil, or an issue with the blower belt. A seasonal system tune-up will help discover these issues before they become major problems so make sure you give us a call at 843-410-6103 and we’ll make sure your heating system is ready to keep you safe and warm all winter long.
